For the third consecutive race, Josh Berry has finished in the Top 10. After strong showings at both Indy and Iowa, Berry finished P8 in the Cook Out 400 at Richmond. He’s still looking for a 2027 seat, however.
It was announced in June that Jesse Love would replace Berry behind the wheel of the iconic No. 21 Wood Brothers Ford for 2027. Following Saturday night’s race, Berry talked about his efforts at Richmond and looked again to the future.
‘It was a decent night’
Berry had a fast car. That was evident from the start of the race, but he was on the unlucky end of a pair of cautions while pitting under green-flag racing.
“Yeah, I mean it was a decent night,” said Berry. “I feel like we left a little bit out there; we just kind of, that one restart I got tight and got jammed up behind the 48.
“We were kind of one of the last cars that stayed out there, and that one didn’t work out. But all in all, the car was pretty good for getting trapped under yellow twice and waving around and all that.
“It’s still a solid day, stage points, just go to New Hampshire and try to do better.”
‘I certainly want to race something’
At this point, Berry has no offers on the table from the Cup Series, O’Reilly Series, or Truck Series. He said he’s had some great meetings with teams and some bad ones. He was also asked by a team for $3 million to race for them in 2027.
“Yeah, I mean I certainly want to race something. And days like today help continue to do the right things and be up front; that’s all we can do.
“So I’m trying hard, and we’ll see how it all shakes out.”
Berry made it clear he’s not doing anything different than he’s done all season. The cars are better, and the results are following.
“I mean this part of the schedule, there’s a lot of good tracks for us, and we’re just capitalizing on it. I mean I’m not doing anything different than I’ve done all year; like our cars are better and we’re capitalizing on it.”
‘It’s hard as shit’
Berry has now has 5 Top-10 finishes this season. And he won a race last year, when he drove his way to Victory Lane at Las Vegas.
He’s showing he has talent. But it also shows the current landscape in NASCAR. For now, though, Berry just wants to keep stacking results.
“Yeah, I mean it’s hard as shit to run in the top five and top ten in these races. To do it anywhere I think proves you’ve got some strengths.
“Yeah, obviously just want to keep building off of it and finish this season strong.”
