Kim Kardashian Gets Emotional Over Motherhood, Co-Parenting and Protecting Her Children From Public Drama

Kim Kardashian opened up about the realities of motherhood, co-parenting and living under constant public scrutiny in an emotional conversation that revealed a more vulnerable side of the reality star.

While Kardashian is accustomed to discussing her career, relationships and life in the spotlight, she became noticeably emotional when the conversation turned to her children. She explained that, regardless of what may be happening between adults or what is being said publicly, her priority is keeping her children’s lives as stable and normal as possible.

“I have to have that smile on my face”

Kardashian explained that there are moments when she may be dealing with difficult personal circumstances, but she refuses to bring that emotional weight into her children’s everyday lives.

She recalled driving her children to school and having them ask to listen to their father’s music. Even if she is struggling emotionally, she said she will put on the music, sing along and smile with her children.

Once she drops them off, however, Kardashian acknowledged that she can finally allow herself to process her emotions.

She became emotional while reflecting on her own childhood and the relationship she had with her father.

“I had the best dad. I had the best memories and the greatest experience,” she said, explaining that she wants her children to have those same kinds of positive memories.

For Kardashian, that means shielding her children from adult conflicts until they are old enough to understand them.

“If they don’t know things that are being said or what’s happening in the world, why would I ever bring that energy to them?” she explained.

She said there are certain issues that are simply too heavy for children to deal with, adding that she will have those conversations with them when they are ready.

Until then, she wants to do everything she can to preserve their childhood.

Kardashian says her children are surprisingly “normal”

Despite growing up in one of the world’s most famous families, Kardashian said her children are remarkably grounded.

She described them as creative, special, happy and kind, while emphasizing that socially they are “super normal.”

Their friendships are also important to her. Kardashian said she loves seeing her children surrounded by good friends and appreciates the sense of normalcy their social lives provide.

Motherhood has also pushed Kardashian outside of her comfort zone.

She joked about participating in TikTok dances with North, despite insisting that dancing has never really been her thing. According to Kardashian, she would never normally get on TikTok and dance by herself, but having children changes what she is willing to do.

“The things you’ll do for your kids,” she said.

North’s creativity has become a cherished memory

Kardashian also shared a sweet story about North’s creativity.

During one car ride, North reportedly put on instrumental beats and began freestyling and rapping over them. Kardashian said her daughter could sit in the car for hours doing it.

Rather than interrupting her, Kardashian started recording the moments on her phone.

She described herself as a “memory documenter,” explaining that she loves keeping little moments from her children’s childhood so they can look back on them one day.

For Kardashian, these seemingly ordinary moments—driving around, listening to music and watching her daughter freestyle—are the kinds of memories she wants to preserve.

Her biggest dream for her children is simple

When asked what she hopes her children will become, Kardashian did not focus on careers, fame or financial success.

Her answer was straightforward: she wants them to be happy.

She said her children are already “very, very happy” and described them as good, kind kids who serve as her biggest reality check.

Kardashian also discussed the chaotic reality of getting four children ready for school each morning. She acknowledged that she receives some help, particularly with the two younger children, but she still gets up early to exercise before everyone wakes up.

Then comes the morning rush: waking the children, getting them dressed, doing their hair and getting everyone out the door.

Despite the chaos, it is clearly a part of motherhood that Kardashian deeply values.

“One day my kids will thank me”

One of the most emotional parts of the conversation came when Kardashian discussed how she handles public issues involving the children’s father.

She acknowledged that there have been situations where she could have publicly criticized or attacked him, but she believes her children will eventually appreciate the decision she made not to do so.

“One day my kids will thank me for not sitting here and bashing their dad when I could,” Kardashian said.

She explained that she is willing to answer their questions privately when they are old enough and want to understand what happened. However, she believes it is no longer her role to publicly involve herself in every controversy.

For Kardashian, protecting her children’s relationship with both parents is more important than winning a public argument.

The pressure of being expected to speak out

Kardashian also opened up about another difficult aspect of celebrity life: being expected to immediately respond to every controversy.

She referenced the backlash surrounding Balenciaga, explaining that people questioned why she did not immediately make a public statement.

Kardashian said she wanted to first understand what had happened before responding.

After reviewing the situation, she said she publicly condemned the sexualization of children and made clear that she found the situation horrifying and disturbing.

But she also pointed out the difficulty of navigating today’s online culture.

According to Kardashian, people can become angry if a celebrity doesn’t speak out, but they can also become angry if the celebrity does speak out but doesn’t use the exact language or approach they expect.

She described the feeling as one in which “you can’t win.”

“I’ll still be me”

Despite the constant criticism, Kardashian said she refuses to allow public opinion to completely dictate who she is.

She acknowledged that some periods are particularly difficult, especially when she finds herself pulled into controversies that she doesn’t believe represent her personally.

Sometimes, she said, she simply doesn’t want to be part of the narrative but finds herself involved anyway because of her public position and her family’s visibility.

That creates a difficult responsibility: Kardashian feels that people look to her as the face of certain situations, meaning she sometimes believes she has to speak.

Ultimately, however, she said she tries to do what feels right rather than absorb all of the negativity surrounding her.

Kardashian says she can accept genuine criticism

Interestingly, Kardashian said she is not opposed to criticism.

What she struggles with, she explained, is criticism that becomes hateful or deliberately destructive.

If someone approaches her sincerely and says they don’t like something and believes she should handle it differently, Kardashian said she is open to listening.

She pointed to the early days of SKIMS as an example.

The brand was originally called “Kimono,” but Kardashian said she and her team did not realize the name could be viewed as culturally appropriative. Once the criticism became clear, she said changing the name was an immediate decision.

There was no desire to stubbornly defend the original choice.

Instead, Kardashian said she believed the right thing was to listen, acknowledge the problem and make the change.

For her, that experience demonstrated that criticism can sometimes lead to growth.

“The whole point of life is to make mistakes”

Kardashian emphasized that she believes people should be allowed to make mistakes, learn from them and evolve.

At the same time, she drew a firm line when discussing the sexualization of children, saying there should be absolutely no place for it.

Her broader point, however, was about the difficulty of living authentically while millions of people constantly analyze every statement, decision and mistake.

She admitted that the pressure can be exhausting, but she doesn’t believe she can live her life constantly wondering what controversy might happen next.

“You can’t live like that,” she said.

Instead, Kardashian said she tries to focus on her family and maintain close relationships with the people around her.

Family remains her safe place

Kardashian said she feels fortunate that her family continues to have one another during difficult periods.

She described family dinners where they hold conversations about life, happiness and what is happening in the world.

For Kardashian, those conversations help the family remain close and tune out some of the outside noise.

She acknowledged that the world can feel frightening and that the current cultural climate is very different from previous generations.

But her solution is to stay focused, remain authentic and avoid allowing every outside opinion to dictate her life.

At the heart of Kardashian’s emotional conversation was a simple message: her children come first.

Whether she is dealing with co-parenting challenges, online criticism or controversies surrounding people close to her, she wants her children to experience as much normalcy as possible.

For Kardashian, motherhood means sometimes putting her own emotions aside, smiling through difficult moments, singing along to her children’s favorite music and saving the tears for later.

And perhaps most importantly, she wants her children to grow up knowing that, whatever happens in the public eye, they were protected, loved and allowed to simply be kids.
