Kim Kardashian explained why she posted vacation pics on Instagram just as news broke that her grandmother, Mary Jo “MJ” Shannon, had died.
Earlier today, Kris Jenner revealed that her beloved mom had passed away at 91 years old, sharing an emotional tribute alongside a portrait of MJ.
“Today, we said goodbye to my beautiful Mommy MJ 😞💔,” Kris wrote on Instagram. “There are no words that could ever capture what she has meant to me or the heartbreak of having to say goodbye.”
She went on to describe MJ as the “heart” of their family, thanking her for a lifetime of wisdom, love, and constant support. “Thank you for giving me the greatest childhood and oh what a beautiful blessed life,” Kris continued. “I love you forever Mommy. Thank you for giving us everything. ❤️”
Around the same time, Kim Kardashian shared an Instagram carousel from a recent summer vacation, captioning it, “lake life.” The post included photos and videos of her wakeboarding, boating with Khloé Kardashian, taking a shot poured by Kendall Jenner, riding bikes, and spending time with her kids.
As you can imagine, people quickly called her out, given the recent announcement of MJ’s death.
One person wrote, “Kim…. There’s people that are dying…..”
Another commented, “Girl, what about your grandma!”
A third asked, “Didn’t your grandmama just pass? This couldn’t wait to the weekend 🙁”
Someone else simply wrote, “what unfortunate timing.”As the criticism grew, others speculated that the upload had been scheduled in advance — which Kim later confirmed when she responded to the criticism directly in the comments.
“This post was scheduled a few days ago before we lost MJ, so its timing came right alongside her passing,” she wrote. “I’ve been by my mom and grandma’s side this past week, and my heart is completely with my family right now.”
She continued, “We love and miss her so deeply, and in the days ahead, we’ll be focusing on celebrating her beautiful life 🕊️🤍.”
